Chuck Echer 2009 Inductee
THANK YOU to all who attended to make this years event a success
On Saturday evening February 28th, 2009 the NCCFFF we formally inducted Mr. Chuck Echer into the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame as the 29th inductee. This year’s event was held at the Veterans Memorial Building, Pleasanton, California in conjunction with "The Fly Fishing Show". No stranger to the fly fishing community of northern California, Chuck’s gentlemen way and friendly smile has graced our local waters, class rooms and sport shows for over thirty years.
It was in 1977 when Chuck began teaching fly fishing at the American Sportsman Club. Nine years later his successful course was expanded into the curriculums of the Piedmont Adult Education School, the Wilderness Unlimited Youth and Adult Educational programs and the Becoming and Outdoor Woman Educational Program. If you entered fly fishing through local education there is a good chance Chuck was your instructor, for few have introduced as many to the sport of fly fishing.
His works and expertise has run the expanses of our state and crossed our continent. Speaking engagements on still water tactics and demonstrations of the Paraloop “V” Hackle play to packed rooms at Federation Conclaves, the International Sportsmen’s Exposition and the Fly Fishing Shows. Angling interests of Europe have called upon this Buszek award winner to share his talents at such prestigious venues as Holland’s Fly Fair and Netherlands Fly Fishing Guild, and the Angling Fair of Chatsworth, England. Few have mentored as many in the tying arts. We know Chuck as the technical tier skilled in feather, fur and thread, yet able to communicate the simplicity and ease of the art. We know him as the consummate instructor able to connect and communicate with each student, but with the patients to know when. And, we know him as the skilled angler recording IGFA records and speaking at international engagements, but with the style and grace of a true gentleman. The NCCFFF is proud to recognize Chuck for his long time contribution to the art, science, literature, techniques, enjoyment and conservation of fly fishing as we know it. |
